The overall purpose of the project is to facilitate effective protection of Intellectual Property (IP) Rights in Serbia, thereby fostering economic development in the Country and attracting inward investment.
The main purpose of this project is to improve the internal infrastructure of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of Serbia and its capacity for granting IP rights and supporting innovation in the country, and to integrate the IPO’s information system to those of the mainstream IP European partners.
The complete IT infrastructure of the Office shall be renewed to the latest IT standards. This will enable the electronic publication of the granted rights, both distinctive signs and patents. In particular, the complete collection of patent documents (applications and granted and petty patents) shall be scanned and indexed, back to 1924. Internally to IPO, studies are carried out to implement a modern administrative tool for the patent procedure.
The project also comprises a training component both for IPO staff members (professional training) and for the IP community of Serbia, in the form of specialized public seminars.
The project started in September 2005 for a duration of 48 months. The budget of the project amounts 900 000 Euros.
